Who is this Guy anyway?!
Who is Jimmy Kelly? A struggling artist? I would describe him more of a very very prolific artist. Like most, who pick up a paint brush, he’s on a quest. A quest for something that is largely indefinable but could be broadly described as self-realisation. He paints because he has to. He wonders is painting just the medium not the real message of what he is about or what he is trying to say. It could be the case, but all he can truthfully say is that the physical act of painting is just as important to him as the finished work.
The act of going into a quiet studio space with an idea and making it manifest through paint, keeps propelling him along with an energy and resolve that no other form of work or play has ever engendered in him. So he is a painter, and a passionate one at that, hence this site passiontopaint. Here he writes and talks about his work and painting in general and other related topics. Ah, the other related topics, whats that? Well that’s his ideas surely. Those are the things from which the paintings are given life from, - his ideas. If there were no ideas, there would be no paintings. So you could say the ideas are more important than the paintings, and I would have to agree. If I feel an idea come to life and haven’t a blank canvas, god help the nearest completed painting to hand, no matter how good it is, I just repaint over it. All that is gone before is sacraficed for the primacy of the new idea.
Charles Dickens said that ideas are like ghosts, you have to speak to them and give them time to fully reveal themselves. Sometimes I don't persevere in patience and that lack can be evident in the final works themselves. But sometimes I do, and then from that a new image is born. One is never finished, just as one is never finished growing. So that is who Jimmy Kelly is. More will be revealed in the pages and paintings of this site. Enjoy.
