Defining Ourselves

What we paint defines who we are. We are in a constant state of becoming. Each time we move the brush across the canvas surface we are not only creators of a painting, but we are in a manner of speaking, contributing to the ongoing creation of the self. We learn about what motivates us, what moves us and what we are compelled to express. All of which takes time and perseverance to cooperate with what is being brought about inside of us.

In this act of ongoing creation we are also players in the creation of those around us and those who view and ultimately choose to live with our work. This is no mean honor. It’s something we should bring to mind when we question the reason for our work, when we are going through the daily trials and tribulations which always seems to result in mediocre art. We are on a journey, and with out laboring the cliché, the act of traveling can be more important that the final destination, because really, maybe, the final destination is an act of the imagination. Can we ever be fully complete?
